What to Expect as a New Patient
Regardless of whether they’re pre- or post-amputation, or an experienced orthotic or prosthetic user searching for an alternative care provider, we welcome the opportunity to help patients of any age.
Before Your First Appointment
Both prosthetic and orthotic patients will need to obtain a prescription from their physician for an orthotic or prosthetic device. At your first appointment, you’ll meet your prosthetist or orthotist, review your prescription, ask questions, and discuss your goals. After you’ve consulted with a clinician, our office staff will work up an estimate for your device(s), and schedule the necessary follow-up appointments. Please note: we cannot provide estimates without a consultation.

Our Process
The process of getting your prosthetic device
- Stage 1: First Consultation
At your first appointment, you’ll meet your prosthetist, who will ask questions to learn more about your medical history and discuss your goals. During this consultation, they will also take measurements for device fabrication and send this information to your insurance provider for approval, which typically takes a week.
- Stage 2: Insurance Approval & Prosthetic Fabrication
Once insurance approves, we send your specs to our world-renowned prosthetics provider, Össur. Each part is deliberately chosen for maximum comfort to accommodate your unique condition. After the components arrive, it takes between 2-3 days to make the prosthetic.
- Stage 3: Fitting & Socket Fabrication
Your prosthetist will schedule a fitting appointment, where they will also assemble your direct socket system. Unlike most socket fabrication which takes between 2-6 weeks, we use Össur’s direct socket system, which requires 2 hours to build, meaning you receive your socket and prosthetics on the same day.
- Stage 4: OPS Pro App Monitoring
PrimeCare’s first-time amputees are fitted with temporary prosthetics for an initial 3-12 months. After careful monitoring and evaluation, we select definitive solutions that best suit your condition and lifestyle.
Dedicated monitoring via our app and regular checkups assessing the suitability of your prosthetic prescription as you progress is vital to ensure comfort and mobility. - Stage 5: Receiving your definitive prosthesis
After the successful use of the preparatory prosthetic device, we analyze the information learned from the tracking app about how the patient moves. The development of a final prosthesis is an individual process. All the small details are taken into account when designing and developing the definitive version.
Stages of Fitting Your Orthosis
- Step 1: Initial EvaluationOnce you’re referred by your physician, you’ll meet our orthotist, who will conduct a thorough evaluation. They’ll discuss your diagnosis and how using a support, brace, foot orthoses, or other devices will fit into your life.
- Stage 2: MeasurementsYour measurements are taken, and in some cases, depending on the orthoses, a cast will be made from plaster or other malleable material. Our clinicians use advanced scanning systems to accurately capture your dimensions for fabrication.
- Stage 3: FabricationAfter insurance approval, your orthotist will send your measurements, casts, or scans to PrimeCare’s partner fabrication facilities, where they are converted into the final device.
- Stage 4: Orthosis DeliveryYour clinician will schedule an appointment to ensure the proper fit and function of your device. They will also provide you with a wearing schedule to help you get accustomed to your orthosis.
Billing & Insurance
Because healthcare is expensive, we offer payment plans on all co-payments, percentages, deductibles, and other expenses not covered. Our team always provides estimated costs associated with services, details on your financial responsibility and options for payment before treatment.
