Jessica: Rebuilding Confidence After Above-Knee Amputation

Prosthetics

Jessica faced years of painful limb-salvage procedures due to bone cancer before making the difficult decision to proceed with a left above-knee amputation in June 2024. Life before surgery was filled with physical pain and uncertainty.

Although the amputation came with challenges, it also marked a major turning point, opening the door to a new beginning.

Prosthetic Journey

When Jessica first came to PrimeCare, she felt nervous and unsure of what to expect. She had heard about the clinic through another cancer patient and decided to trust their recommendation for lower-limb amputation.

She was fitted with a microprocessor Rheo knee using suction suspension — advanced technology designed to provide stability and adaptive movement for above-knee amputees.

The early months were difficult. She experienced phantom pain, weakness in her residual limb, and hesitation while learning to walk again. Trusting the prosthesis took time.

“It took 3–4 months to fully trust the leg.”

Over the course of a year, her strength steadily improved.

Results

Today, Jessica has returned to the gym and walks with renewed confidence. What once felt overwhelming now feels empowering.

“It’s helped with confidence. I didn’t like people seeing me. Now I want people to see how strong I am.”

Her custom prosthesis did more than restore mobility — it restored independence and self-belief. With the support of the PrimeCare team, she rebuilt her strength and embraced a new chapter defined by resilience.

Jessica now encourages others facing amputation to stay hopeful. With advanced prosthetic knee technology and the right care, recovery is possible.
