For almost a decade, Mary lived in constant pain.
A 2015 ankle injury led to multiple surgeries and eventually Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS Type 2). Her left leg became extremely sensitive. Walking required crutches. Daily life revolved around discomfort.
By 2024, she was ready for change.
On March 5th, she underwent a left below-knee amputation — a decision rooted in hope, not defeat.

The Moment That Changed Everything
Her first time standing with a prosthesis was overwhelming.
“For the first time in 9 years, I was standing with two feet.”
That moment marked the beginning of her new chapter.
Mary was fitted with a custom below-knee prosthetic featuring a locking mechanism and Direct Socket system, designed to provide secure suspension, comfort, and improved mobility. Unlike traditional socket fabrication, the Direct Socket approach allows for a more personalized and efficient fitting process.
Within a month, she adjusted to walking with her custom prosthetic. Assistive devices were no longer necessary.
More Than Mobility
Regaining the ability to walk without crutches changed more than her physical movement.
Mary began traveling again. She walked confidently during a trip to New Orleans just months after receiving her prosthetic limb. She returned to school and is completing her Associate degree with a minor in Community Health.
Balance continues to improve. Confidence continues to grow.
“I got my life back.”

A Different Kind of Clinic Experience
Mary describes PrimeCare as “a home base environment that you feel welcomed to” .
She appreciated the detailed explanations, the empathy from staff, and the feeling that her story mattered. She believes every team member goes above and beyond for patients navigating amputation and prosthetic care.
“You’re not alone.”
